Söderfors Herrgård
Experience History and Comfort
Welcome to Söderfors Herrgård - a historic manor house dating back to 1690, designed by the castle architect Carl
Hårleman, which has been transformed into a luxurious waterfront resort. Here, Swedish cultural heritage meets modern
comfort, with a hotel, spa, restaurant, bar and conference center that together create a unique experience.

History of Söderfors Manor
Söderfors Herrgård, built in 1690 by the first owner Claes Anckarström, has evolved from a working manor to a modern hotel that preserves the charm of history.
Today we offer our guests a unique stay in a historic setting with modern amenities. In three of the rooms in the manor house there are still original paintings in the ceilings from 1690. Söderfors anchor mill manufactured anchors for the Swedish navy already in the middle of
17th century and supplied the Royal Navy for a hundred years. Where many other mills in Sweden have closed down, Söderfors is still a living mill - and has been since the mid-17th century.
From Forge to Hospitality
Söderfors began as Sweden's only anchor smithy in the 17th century, producing anchors for the Swedish navy. Over the years
the mansion developed into a historical cultural center and is today a hotel where every guest can experience the wings of history.
Architectural Heritage and Modern Comfort
The main building in the Carolinian style, designed by the castle architect Carl Hårleman, is both a historical landmark and a place where guests can enjoy peace and elegance.
Widows' House - A Symbol of Care and Support
This unique project by Anna Johanna Grill became a refuge for widows with their children and preserves the spirit of care that lives on in our hospitality. Anna Johanna Grill was the third owner of the manor after the previous owner Johan Leijoncrona.

Söderfors Manor Through the Centuries
Foundation of the manor
Söderfors Herrgård is founded by Claes Anckarström in 1690 as a manor house and marks the beginning of its journey as an important place in Uppland and Sweden.
Revival under Claes Grill
Claes Grill, a businessman, shipowner and one of the leaders of the East India Company was a very prominent person. After Grill acquired the manor and the anchorage, a great period of growth began with significant architectural and industrial progress. The Grill family owned the manor and the mill for over 200 years.
The old cross church at Herrgården is destroyed by fire
After a devastating fire, Söderfors Church was built in 1789 near the manor house in neoclassical style, designed by the famous court architect Erik Palmstedt. Long before the fire, plans had been made for a new and larger stone church reminiscent of Adolf Fredrik's church in Stockholm. In front of the gold cross is a small crucifix, which according to the 1784 inventory belonged to the old cross church that burned down. The church can be seen by the church caretaker who is on site during working hours.
The historic inn opens
The iconic inn next to the manor house on Stallgatan and the associated carriage house at the manor house became a central meeting place and an architectural landmark within the estate. It housed a large hall, a shop, a drinking house and guest rooms. In 1872, it was converted into workers' housing.
