Discover the nature around Söderfors Herrgård
Surrounded by the sparkling waters of the Dalälven River and Söderfors' historic mill environment, in the middle of the unique biosphere reserve Älvlandskapet Nedre Dalälven, the manor house invites you to experience nature. There is something for everyone, whether you want to go on a quiet hike, paddle at sunset, fish in the river's calm current or just take a walk among oaks and cultural monuments.
The English park surrounding the temple was laid out in the 18th century and is one of the oldest examples of English park style in Sweden. It mixes open grass areas with old trees, winding paths and views of the Dalälven River. The park is perfect for a morning walk or a quiet picnic in the sun.
Right next to the manor house is the beautiful Änkehuset, a building with a long history. Widows of the mill's directors and priests used to live here - and today the house is a popular stop during walks through the mill area. The charming architecture and well-preserved details make it a natural part of Söderfors' cultural heritage.
Around the manor there are several beautiful paths and small trails that meander through forests, along the water and past historic environments. Here you can choose between short walks or longer hikes in the tranquil nature around the Dalälven. A short distance away is the Gästrikeleden trail, which offers longer hikes for those who want to discover more of the region.
Dalälven is an eldorado for anglers. Pike, zander and perch are all caught in the calm bays around Söderfors. You can fish directly from the shore or hire a boat for a day on the river.Fishing licenses are sold at the reception, and we are happy to help with tips on the best places.
A few kilometers from the manor house lies the Bredforsen Nature Reserve, where the Dalälven River splits into several branches and rushes between cliffs and islands. The area is part of a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve with unique natural values and great international significance.
Here you will encounter rich bird life, magnificent views, and tranquil beauty. There are marked trails, rest areas, and barbecue facilities—a perfect outing for those who want to experience unspoiled nature up close.
One of Söderfors' most famous landmarks is the beautiful Greek Temple - a classicist gazebo built in the 18th century, in the middle of the English park. With its columns and views of the river, it has become a symbol of the elegance and history of the place. Take a stroll there from the manor house and feel the waves of history in the tranquil setting.
There are five museums in Söderfors that tell the story of the town's industrial history. The Söderfors Local History Association runs the Local History Museum, Gammelgården, Änkehuset, and Smedjan, where you can experience environments and objects from the ironworks era.
At Bruksgallerian, history and the present meet through art and exhibitions in the old industrial environment.
Tierp Church was built around 1300 and is one of Uppland's largest medieval rural churches. Built in gray stone and brick, it has been shaped by centuries of history and bears traces of both Gothic architecture and beautiful frescoes.
At the northern wall of the cemetery stand two runestones from the 11th century. They serve as reminders of the people of the Viking Age and their travels, making this place a meeting point between the Viking Age and the Middle Ages.
